Obesity Effects: How Obesity Is One Of The Most Common Causes Of Fatigue

Fatigue is a condition that is commonly associated with extreme fatigue. If excess weight is present it is always suspected as one of the causes of fatigue. Even ten or twenty pounds of excess weight can have an effect on Insulin Resistance (defined later) which can cause unexplained tiredness.

Obesity Defined

Obesity is typically defined as a person with a BMI (body mass index) over 30, because they are generally about 30 pounds over their ideal body weight for their height. (See note on BMI later on in this article.) An obese person is defined as a person who is “very fat, stout, or corpulent.”

Obesity Effects – The Real Weight of Being Overweight

Fatigue and obesity are now known to be linked to a common abnormality – a condition known as Insulin Resistance.  At a healthy body weight insulin facilities the transport of glucose into your body’s cells where it can then be utilized for energy. Insulin Resistance desensitizes the cells of your body to insulin and impairs this process. As a result, glucose and insulin levels become unbalanced in your blood stream, which can later cause diabetes and other serious health risks.

The unbalance of glucose and insulin levels in your blood stream is one of the obesity effects that can be most life changing to an overweight person, yet it gets less attention than other obesity effects. Diabetes, the later effect of Insulin Resistance, is known as the sleeping killer of Americans because so many people are unaware and undiagnosed with this disease. Additionally, it is said that about 50% of people’s Insulin Resistance is caused by genetics, while 50% is caused by lifestyle factors and choices.

Insulin Resistance, along with excess weight, both are causes of fatigue. Coupled together, the result is a double-whammy of tiredness.

Obesity and Its Relationship to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, the mysterious and often misdiagnosed illness that includes unexplained fatigue that lasts for 6 months or longer, has symptoms that are also often present in an obese person. Chronic Fatigue Syndrome symptoms include: Significant impairment in short-term memory or concentration, muscle pain, joint pain without swelling or redness, headaches, unrefreshing sleep and malaise that lasts for more than 24 hours after exertion. Additionally, a person with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome also exhibits sore throat and tender lymph nodes.

Severe obesity, as defined by a body mass index (BMI) equal to or greater than 45, rules out Chronic Fatigue Syndrome as a reason for experiencing these symptoms. The reason a severely obese person will not be diagnosed with CFS is because the symptoms of severe obesity is so similar to CFS. Doctors will always treat severe obesity first and if the symptoms of CFS persist, then after severe obesity symptoms are gone then it will be treated next.  (Note: Body mass index values vary considerably among different age groups and populations. No “normal” or “average” range of values can be suggested. The range of 45 BMI or higher was selected because it falls within the range of severe obesity.)

Fighting Fatigue and Fighting the Causes of Fatigue

The best way to fight fatigue, especially when its due to obesity, being overweight or Insulin Resistance, is increased exercise. Increasing your exercise regiment is vital to improving Insulin Resistances and immediately reduces the causes of fatigue.  Generally, Insulin Resistances starts to improve just days after a new exercise routine is begun – even before any significant weight loss occurs.

Next, eliminate causes of fatigue by beginning a sound nutritional plan. Seek nutritional guidance to help you find a healthy way of eating for you – not an extreme diet, but a healthy lifestyle change. You may consult a healthy living coach to help you in both the area of adding exercise to your daily routine and finding a new nutritional plan that works best for you.

Finally, consider supplementing your diet with herbs, vitamins and minerals which are meant to increase your level of energy and balance your body, as well as combat causes of fatigue. Again, a healthy living coach can help you find a balance of these nutrients that will fit your goals.

Being inactive, whether weight gain is present or not, will always make one vulnerable to fatigue.  The rule of thumb is when you don’t feel like being active, that’s the best time to do so.

Signs And Symptoms Of Adrenal Fatigue – 3 Very Common Symptoms

Edit Article |

Learn to know the signs and symptoms of adrenal fatigue; with this article you will be able to spot the 3 very common symptoms, and many other signs of this disorder.  With many people suffering from adrenal fatigue the symptoms are getting easier to spot, but would you be able to tell if you were suffering from this disorder or another health issue?  Like many of the other disorders that affect people their warning signs can be very much the same as another illness and will require specialized testing just to rule out any other possibilities.

Adrenal fatigue is when the adrenal glands get so stressed and so overworked making the important hormones that help to regulate the human body that it either slows down working or ceases to work all together.  When this happens, the hormone levels in the body drops which causes the person to become tired to the point of extreme fatigue.  As lives become more hectic and fast paced adrenal fatigue is becoming a growing problem and concern for many people.

So what are the 3 very common signs and symptoms of adrenal fatigue?

The first very common symptom of adrenal fatigue is lingering tiredness and excessive fatigue.  When this happens to a person, it does not matter if they get the recommended 8 full hours of sleep at night; they will still wake feeling worn out and sluggish.  That is because their sleep is constantly being disturbed and they are unable to reach a deep sleep stage where the most restful sleep is obtained from.

The second very common symptom of adrenal fatigue is a sudden loss of energy and stamina; the reason for this is that the adrenal glands are the body’s production center for adrenaline.  When the body is low on adrenaline the body becomes low on stamina and energy; adrenaline is considered the fight or flight hormone and without it, a person’s response to a dangerous or threatening situation might become impaired.

The third very common symptom of adrenal fatigue is a rapid decrease in one’s sexual desires or low libido.  In addition to adrenaline, the adrenal glands produce the hormones DEHA which are the precursor hormones to the sex hormones such as progesterone, estrogen, and testosterone.  When the body is low on those hormones that help control the sexual aspects of a person’s body their interest in sex and intimacies fade away.

Of course in addition to these more common symptoms there are several other warning signs that a person should be made aware of; these can include any or all of the following:  anxiety or panic attacks, cravings for sweet or salty foods, depression, low blood pressure and sugar levels, low immunity, memory retention problems, nervousness, heart palpitations, thinning or loss of hair, and weight gain.

What Are The Symptoms Of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome?

What are the symptoms of chronic fatigue syndrome? This is a good question to be asking as there is very little known about this disorder, and it is one that is under-diagnosed as the majority of the symptoms are easily confused with the symptoms of other health issues. But with chronic fatigue syndrome, or CFS, the symptoms will not go away when the sufferer is being treated for one of the other health issues that are similar in symptoms.

As more people are being diagnosed with adrenal fatigue, also known as AF; what are some of the common symptoms of adrenal fatigue?  This article is going to briefly touch upon some of the major and some of the common symptoms of AF.

Of course there is probably some more questions in addition to the first one asked, those questions could include things like: What is adrenal fatigue?  How does one get adrenal fatigue?  What can be done to eliminate adrenal fatigue?  These are all very good questions and ones that should not only be researched by the asker, but also to be asked of a medical professional.  Although hopefully after reading this article, answers to those types of questions will become clearer to the readers.

What is adrenal fatigue? First off it is important to understand just what adrenal is; and adrenal are glands in the body that produces hormones such as cortisol, DEHA, and adrenaline which helps to keep the body’s system in alignment.  When the adrenal glands stop functioning properly a person will experience excessive tiredness or fatigue in what is known as adrenal fatigue.

How does one get adrenal fatigue? Many different factors can lead to adrenal fatigue, these factors include the following but is not limited too: overworking one self in a fast paced life, stresses related to a job, a home, debts and more, traumatic or shocking events or accidents in one’s life such as a bad automobile accident, the loss of a loved one, the loss of a job, moving to a new location, or even divorce.  When the body gets under a lot of stress, even stress that one does not realize that they are experiencing, this can tax the adrenal glands, causing them to work overtime so much that they get fatigued and slow down or halt production of the body’s important hormones.

What are the major symptoms of adrenal fatigue? While there are many different warning signs and symptoms to adrenal fatigue, there are some that are more important to watch out for then the others.  These major symptoms include one or more of the following: excessive tiredness or fatigue, low energy or stamina to complete normal everyday tasks, a decrease in sexual intimacies or a low libido, depression or anxiety with or without panic attacks, or and increase in respiratory infections.

What are the common symptoms of adrenal fatigue? Some of the more common, yet equally important symptoms of adrenal fatigue include one or more of the following:  changes in memory retention, changes in weight, craving sugary treats or caffeine, dizziness, headaches, inability to fall asleep and stay asleep, inability to stay focused on tasks, lightheadedness, low blood pressure, and low blood sugar levels.

What can be done to eliminate adrenal fatigue? If you suspect that you might have one or more of the above listed symptoms it is best to seek out the council of your medical provider and let them know of your concerns.  They will be able to order a full regimen of blood and physical tests to determine if you do or do not have adrenal fatigue.

Should it be discovered that you do suffer from this disorder, it is best to follow any specific advice from your doctor if they give you modern medicine to treat the symptoms; and it is also a good idea to get into the practices of healthy eating, getting at least 8 full hours of rest or more a night, and adding in some minor daily exercises.  All of these things along with trying to reduce the stress levels in your life can be beneficial to easing or eliminating the symptoms of adrenal fatigue and allowing some semblance of normalcy to return.

Knowing the most common causes of fatigue can help you to figure out what is standing in your way of great health and vitality. What are they? And what impact does this have on your health? Find out here.

What are the most common causes of fatigue today? First of all, let’s define what is fatigue? Fatigue has been described as a state of exhaustion, tiredness, or lethargy. It can be either physical or mental, or a combination of both. It is not the same as drowsiness, which is a tendency to fall asleep, although you may be fatigued and drowsy at the same time. Fatigue is pretty common nowadays. Most of us have experienced it at some point in our life, and we can manage it, but for some of us , fatigue interferes with our normal quality of life. If this is true of us, we may need to find out what are the most common causes of fatigue, to see if we can get our health and vitality back!

When you can’t keep up with your normal routine due to lack of energy, you are probably suffering from one or more of the most common causes of fatigue. If you cannot keep up with your physical routine because you are too tired to carry it out, then you are likely suffering from physical fatigue. If you are having trouble focusing your thoughts or staying awake, then you are likely dealing with emotional fatigue. Any combinations of the above may be manifest as both physical and emotional fatigue. If just reading about it is making you fatigued, read on! There is light at the end of this tunnel. The most common causes of fatigue may be traced to our routine, or our habits in everyday life. So they may be a reflection of our lifestyle, or have emotional or medical aspects to them, or a combination of these factors.

The most common causes of fatigue may be classified as either Physical or Emotional.

Common Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Symptoms

There is a commonality among the symptoms of chronic fatigue syndrome that affects those who suffer from the condition. While many of the symptoms are similar the way they affect one person may be quite different from the affects felt by another person. One of the problems with accurately diagnosing chronic fatigue syndrome is the fact that many of the symptoms are similar to the symptoms of other illnesses. This is why it is important to consult with a doctor if you feel that you are suffering from chronic fatigue. Your doctor can order a variety of tests to rule out other illnesses before a diagnosis is given, thereby making sure that the best treatment and medication regimen can be prescribed. For many people chronic fatigue syndrome symptoms feel a lot like they have the flu with symptoms that include: • Fatigue or feeling tired even after a good nights sleep. • Continuous or re-occurring headaches. • Stomach problems including nausea and loss of appetite. • Becoming forgetful and not be able to concentrate. • Muscle pain and aches. • Joint pain without swelling. • Lymph nodes under the arms and in the neck are tender or swollen. • Sore throat. • Depression. • Having sore or aching muscles for more than twenty four hours after exercise or some other activity. Because chronic fatigue syndrome symptoms tend to cause a loss of appetite there is the very real problem of a weakened immune system simply because the body is not getting the nutrition it needs. This opens the door for other infections and illnesses to strike which are not only miserable in themselves but can also make the symptoms of chronic fatigue that much worse. By keeping the body strong with a healthy diet, regular exercise and a reduction of daily stress one can keep their immune system strong which fights of other diseases and reduces the severity of chronic fatigue symptoms. It is also important to follow the treatment prescribed by a doctor, which helps ease the symptoms and allows the sufferer to not have a loss of appetite. A diagnosis of chronic fatigue syndrome can be a life altering event. The symptoms can stay the same or change over time along with the severity of the symptoms. These changes often happen in conjunction with lifestyle changes. Eating a healthy diet and getting regular exercise is one lifestyle change that has been shown to vastly improve the day to day life of those who suffer from this disorder. By recognizing the chronic fatigue syndrome symptoms those who suffer its affects are able to modify their daily life to effectively treat their symptoms.
